Gee I like swimming. Did another 100 lengths today. I should really call it 2500 m. I think that sounds more impressive
Darryl has gone swimming 4 times the week I think and is starting to quite like it. We had a race today and he beat me fair and square. Tanner was in the race, too, and we made him count to 3 before he could start. He beat us easy by a couple of lengths: Tanner is really fast. And that was after having done 100 lengths, too. We gave Taylor a 3 second headstart and I think she still beat me. I’m resigned to the fact that I’m not fast but I can swim a whole lot of lengths. I love swimming with Tanner.
We hope to go to the gym later this morning and then maybe I’ll do a quick bike ride.
Make it a good day.
Wow! What a beautiful ride we went on yesterday. We left the campground around 9ish and returned 2 1/2 glorious hours later. I had never ridden up to Red Rock before on the bike and it was a great ride. Although it didn’t seem like it, we were climbing much of the way. It felt more like lots of rolling hills. coming back, though, we had to pedal up a couple hills but for the most part we were coasting the whole way. Bob and had met Matt and Lyndsay in their campground who are on a racing team in Calgary and so he invited them to join us. They are a great couple and great bikers. However, …, on the downhills Bob and I were signficantly faster. I’m not sure if Lyndsay liked the high speed downhills. Of course Bob and I probably outweighed them by 50+ pounds so our superior training (i.e. eating) helped out. Another “however” was that on the uphills Lyndsay made us look like we were standing still; she was a fantastic climber. Matt seemed to go as fast as he figured he needed. I’d like to see him riding all out; great cyclist.
After the ride Bob took Trish, Leah and I out to Pearls for wraps and cinnamon buns. It was a great restaurant – one of the best in Waterton. All in all it was a great day. When I got home we fixed up the pool and then I had band practice. I like Thursdays.
Make it a glorious day.
Tanner and I went and did 2 circuits in the gym today. Took us about 75 minutes. Our time will decrease as we learn the routines. My upper body was feeling pretty spent at the end of the session; it felt great. We’ll try to keep that up 3 times a week during the summer and, if Tanner wants, continue when he’s back in school. I can use the gym at the college in the fall but I like going with Tanner so might just continue here. We’ll see. Didn’t eat that great again today. Donna is making ice cream cookie sandwiches – my favourite. I had two but will now call it quits. I think I’ll go for a quick 20k ride tonight before the harder ride tomorrow with Bob.
I was still in a deficit yesterday because of the swim but I ate when I wasn’t hungry – gotta stop that. Today holds a session in the gym on core and a bike ride. Tomorrow a bike ride with Bob!
Boy I like the morning swim. I did 100 lengths (or 2.5k) again today. That’s two days in a row doing that. My arms were feeling a bit sore at the end but not too bad. I think I have a bit of tendinitis in the shoulders resulting from numerous mountain biking spills. It’s funny how the first 20 lengths are quite hard, the arms feel stiff and heavy. then the next 60 seem to flow by quite quickly. Then the last 10 or 20 are heavy again. I always like to sprint the last length I swim; today it probably didn’t look much like a sprint but it was faster than the others; we’ll call it a sprint. My goal today is to keep the food in check and get started using SparkPeople again; I guess the two go hand in hand.
Had a great bike ride last night. Averaged 30.4 km/h for the first 15k and then died coming back home. The wind is always funny north of town; seems like it’s not really pushing you on the way out but is terribly in your face on the way back. Legs are feeling fine this morning. Ate a bit too much last night but was definitely in a deficit for the day. More swimming and hopefully the gym today. Tanner is roguing canola today so I’m not sure he’ll feel like the gym after work. Oh, Caitlyn and I had a great late night swim; she sure loves the water.
Make it a good day.
So, I got back into swim mode today; I did 2.5k at the Taber pool. I felt pretty good the whole time and averaged about 6:00 for every 500m. Not nearly as fast as my brother Bob but when we do triathlons together I’ll draft him in the pool so I just need to get around 5:20ish and then I should be ok.
I ate pretty well today, too. No cookies yet. I’m going for a road bike ride (maybe 20-30k) later. If I get time later today I’ll also go to the gym to do weights with Tanner. It’s nice to get in the fitness mood. I hate being in the non-fitness mood which I’ve been in for the last couple of months. I’m not sure how you get out of the lazy mood. Suggestions?
I’m thinking that as I begin my physical journey that I also need to address my spiritual and mental fitness. David Williams spike today on spiritual nutrients and I’m thinking that I’ll focus on ALL nutrients and the resulting fitness.
Make it a good day.
I’ve registered for a team triathlon that happens in less than a month and I’m not ready! I’m in charge of the biking which shouldn’t be too bad (40km) but I’m certainly not in shape to do it today. I’ve been toting with the fat/fit thing for way too many years. I’ve been like a yoyo year after year: fat then fit then fat but fit. It’s not a good cycle to be part of. I have a good support system but my self control in eating has been little to none.
So, I’m now starting a blog to see if making my plight visible to the world might make me more accountable. It’s Sunday today so no crazy exercising but I’ll watch what I eat.
Make it a good day (LS)

Just starting a blog using the iPhone. Easy so far.
